The Oriental Library, founded in 1891 by Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar X, stands at the northern end of Krishnaraja Boulevard, opposite Mysore University’s Crawford Hall. Originally part of the Department of Education, it joined the University of Mysore in 1916. Renamed the Oriental Research Institute in 1943, it occupies the architecturally striking Jubilee Hall, erected in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee.
